Seward and on to Alyeska

After our final good byes to the Celebrity Millennium we boarded a tour bus at the port for our 4 day trip into the interior of Alaska. We had the good fortune to have a terrific bus diriver named Leon and a tour guide named Melinda. They really made the tour.

Our first stop was the Alaska Sealife Center where we saw puffins which I have always wanted to see. We also got to see a number of different sea birds and native Alaskan sealitfe including one elusive octopus.

After touring the sealife center we walked the few bockes of Seward and found a fantastic quilt shop here I purchased some beautiful fabric. We also stoppedt at a neat gift shop and picked up a small memento that has mastodon ivory in it.

Our lunch stop was in Seward which has a number of shops including a quilt ship with some amazing fabrics, I could not resist.

We stopped at a small restaurant for lunch and were a bit surprised at the prices - $36 for halibut fish and chips. It was really good though so no complaints.

These are some other photos I took at the Alaska Sealife Center.

Our next stop was to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where we got to see a lot of different animals upclose including a number of bears.

Onward to Alyeska!

Shortly after arriving in Alyeska we took the tram up the mountain to the Seven Glaciers Restaurant where we had an overly expensive, but excellent dinner. Charlie, Ruth and BJ caught an earlier tram to get back down to the hotel to swim before the pool closed. David and I walked around the area which was very quiet and also exceptionally beautiful before taking the tram back down to the resort.

The blue polls at the resort were stunning. Iā€™d never seen anything like them. A few days later in Talkeetna someone told me they are Siberian poppies and are very difficult top get growing but once they do they multiply.
