The Celebrity Flora

Traveling the Galapagos in Luxury.

The Celebrity Flora is a beautiful ship, both inside and out. It was built specifically for use in the Galapagos and holds 100 passengers in its 50 guest suites. Throughout the week we heard about some of the state of the art features of the ship including its use of solar power and electricity, its clean running engines, and the tenders built specifically for Celebrity for ease of getting in and out of. There are 6 passenger decks with guest rooms occupying 2 of them. Most time on the ship outside of our room was on deck 4 where the main dining room is located along with the Discovery Lounge, a gathering/meeting area with a small bar. It is used for lectures, showing videos, waiting for excursions and is a place to socialize with a drink before dinner. Deck 7 has an outdoor grill area called The Ocean Grill which is a nice area to just relax and have a casual lunch. Deck 8 is a small area in the front of the ship used by many to view the stars on clear evenings. We were able to get a tour of the bridge one afternoon. Seeing how the ship is controlled with state of the art navigational equipment was fascinating.

The cabins, which Celebrity calls suites are mostly single room cabins, much larger than what you would find on most cruise ships. The suites on deck 5 have external balconies and those on deck 6 have something Celebrity calls an infinite balconies. We were on deck 6, suite 618. The actual space for the infinite balcony is inside the room and there is a ceiling to floor window at the end where the edge of the balcony would be and it opens halfway from the ceiling down. There was more storage space than we could possibly use in our suite and the bathroom was very large with a combination shower tub, with a window towards the ocean.

While it was sad to say goodbye to the Galapagos and the Flora, we feel thrilled beyond belief that we were able to spend a week in this most amazing unspoiled land.
