Dublin Day 2

August 9

After a good night’s sleep everyone felt more in sync with Irish time. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and ventured out to see some more of Dublin. Our walk took us along the river and across to some areas with interesting shops and restaurants.

David and BJ ventured off to the Jameson Whisky factory for a tasting of BJ’s favorite whisky. They had an enjoyable time and brought back some of the potables they enjoyed at the tasting.

Ruth, Charlie and I continued walking and went down some picturesque streets and walkways. We stopped at a shop selling knitted and woven clothing made in Ireland and spent some time there. Continuing on we stopped at a lovely church and got to hear a few minutes of the organ. We ventured on and spent time looking around in vintage shops. At one shop, Charlie charmed a worker who gave him a bag of gibbets for his crocks. By mid afternoon we’d had enough shopping and stopped at the Little Pig, a small restaurant where we enjoyed a drink and snack before venturing out to take a ride on the light rail. Charlie was obsessed with riding the train so we were glad to fit it in.

After our train ride we dropped Charlie back at the hotel so Ruth and I could visit Trinity College which is a block away from our hotel We had just enough time to walk though the Book of Kells exhibit and the college’s immense library of ancient books.

We returned to the hotel just in time to meet up with our tour group for our first get together with our tour group. Our get together started with some lovely harp music. The harpist invited anyone interested to join her, learn more about the harp and try out playing it. Charlie was the first one to take advantage.

We also got to hear more about our upcoming week’s tour around Ireland from our tour guides, Stephen from Ireland, and Gabby from Tennessee. During dinner we got to meet and talk with some of the other 30 people on our tour who come from all around the US.

Following dinner, Charlie and I went back to my room while the others went out again to enjoy Dublin.

We start the day early tomorrow to I was happy to just put my feet up and spend the evening with Charlie.
